Henry Scarsbrick Leigh was a councillor for North Ward on Camberwell City Council from 1933 to
Early life
Career
Henry Leigh had long-standing connections with the Mutual Store Ltd for 46 years, and served as its chartered secretary for some time.[1] He was also president of the Master Drapers' Association.[1]
Politics
He was a member of the Camberwell Board of Advice in the late 1900s and early 1910s.[4]
Leigh was first elected in the 1933 elections, beating incumbent councillor Arthur Latham by a significant majority.[5] He campaigned strongly against the incumbent council, accussing them of "extravagence" and financial mismanagement.[6] This was to be the last election before North Ward was split into North-East Ward and North-West Ward in the 1934 resubdivision of the City of Camberwell.
He was re-elected unopposed to represent North-West Ward in 1939.[7]
Legacy
Leigh Park in Balwyn North is named for him.
