Canterbury Gardens is a public park located on Canterbury Road, Canterbury. It is one of the most popular gardens in Boroondara.[1]

Etymology

The Gardens were named for the governor of Victoria of the time, Viscount Canterbury.

History

Canterbury Gardens were formally created as public space in 1903 when the Shire of Boroondara purchased the land from private owners. The Canterbury Library, then located on the opposite side of Canterbury Road, was moved to a new building within the Gardens in March 1907.[2]

W (or West) Creek formerly flowed at the lowest point of the site, but was re-routed underground at an unknown date.[1]
