The Chairman of the Boroondara District Roads Board was the rough equivalent of the present-day position of mayor. The term was used due to Boroondara's status as a road board rather than a shire or city council. The chairman was elected from amongst the sitting members on an annual basis.
Remuneration
As of 1879, the allowance was fixed at ₤15. This rose to ₤20 in the following year.[1]
It stayed at this level for over a decade until it rose suddenly to ₤50 in 1889, ₤75 in 1890 and hit a peak of ₤100 in 1891. It was gradually reduced back to ₤50 by 1893.[2]
