Camberwell Council

Heated exchanges with other councillors were not uncommon. These arguments were widely-reported and occured primarily in the mid-1930s, during a time when Camberwell Council was in the midst of reform and subject to intense public criticism of its administrative operation and financial efficiency.[1][2][3]

Crawford ran for re-election in 1934 but lost on a recount by two votes, being succeeded by David Watson. It was the first recount to take place at a local election in the City of Camberwell for 14 years.[4]
