It is named for [[Robert Beckett]], former [[Councillors of Camberwell Council|councillor]] and [[Mayors of Camberwell Council|mayor]] of the [[City of Camberwell|Camberwell Council]] as well as [[Presidents of Boroondara Shire|president]] of the [[Shire of Boroondara|Boroondara Shire Council]].
